Editorial Policy

How we research, write, and stand behind every guide.

Our method

Every GearWhen guide starts with data, not opinion. We study how prices for a product move across the year — the recurring sale events, the discount ranges retailers and brands actually offer, and the model-release cycles that trigger clearance. From those patterns we build a practical calendar: the best month to buy, the discount to expect, and the windows to avoid.

Accuracy & honesty

  • Estimates are labeled as estimates. Prices and discounts reflect historical patterns and are not guarantees. We say so plainly.
  • We publish "wait" advice. If the smart move is to hold off, we tell you — even though a sale often earns us more.
  • We recommend alternatives. When a cheaper product performs just as well, it goes in the guide.

Advertising independence

Advertising and affiliate partnerships never determine our recommendations or ratings. Ad placements are managed separately from editorial content, and no advertiser reviews or approves our guides before publication. See our affiliate disclosure for how we're compensated.

Updates

Buying advice goes stale as sale cycles shift, so we revisit guides and refresh their "last updated" date when patterns change. If you spot something out of date or incorrect, please tell us at hello@gearwhen.com — reader corrections make the site better.

Corrections

When we get something wrong, we fix it promptly and, where the change is significant, note it on the page. Integrity with our readers is the entire value of GearWhen.
