About GearWhen
We focus on the question most buying guides skip: when should you buy?
Last reviewed: July 2026
GearWhen started from a simple frustration. Fitness and outdoor gear is expensive, the "deals" are constant and confusing, and most buying guides only tell you what to buy — never when. Yet timing is where the real money is saved. The same treadmill, kayak, or cooler can swing by hundreds of dollars depending on the month you buy it.
So we built a resource dedicated entirely to the deal calendar. We track historical pricing across major retailers and manufacturer sale cycles, then turn those patterns into plain-English guidance: the month to buy, the discount to expect, and — just as important — when to wait.
What we cover
- Fitness equipment — treadmills, walking pads, adjustable dumbbells, benches, and racks.
- Outdoor gear — coolers, grills and smokers, kayaks, tents, and camping gear.
- Deals & timing — Prime Day, Labor Day, Black Friday, and end-of-season clearance predictions.
How we make money
GearWhen is free to read and reader-supported. Some links to products are affiliate links, meaning we may earn a small commission if you buy — at no extra cost to you. We also run display advertising. Neither affects our recommendations. Read our affiliate disclosure and editorial policy to see exactly how we work.
Our promise
We publish honest "wait" advice as readily as "buy now" advice, because trust is the whole point. Prices and predictions are estimates drawn from historical patterns, not guarantees — always confirm the live price before you check out.

Frequently asked questions
Is GearWhen independent?
Yes. GearWhen is an independent, reader-supported publisher. We earn through affiliate links and display ads, but those never determine which products we recommend — we publish "wait" advice as readily as "buy now" advice.
Who writes GearWhen’s guides?
Our guides are researched and written by the GearWhen Research Desk, drawing on manufacturer specs, historical retail pricing, and aggregated owner feedback. We synthesize that into buy/wait timing rather than hands-on lab testing.
How does GearWhen make money?
When you buy through our links we may earn a small affiliate commission at no extra cost to you, and we run display advertising. That’s it — no paid placements, no sponsored rankings.
